{"id":687,"date":"2009-09-17T20:05:28","date_gmt":"2009-09-18T01:05:28","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/planesafe.org\/?p=687"},"modified":"2016-01-02T16:13:21","modified_gmt":"2016-01-02T21:13:21","slug":"oversight","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/planesafe.org\/?p=687","title":{"rendered":"Oversight"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Oversight is the topic of the day.\u00a0 There are many articles out there, but here is a brief view of the topics.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Oversight\" href=\"http:\/\/www.usatoday.com\/news\/washington\/2009-09-15-air-safety_N.htm\" target=\"_blank\">USA Today ran a cover story yesterday on the weak federal oversight of the charter flight industry in recent years<\/a>.\u00a0 Crash numbers in the story reflect a higher number of crashes in charter flights, as compared to commercial airlines, in four of the last six years.<\/p>\n<p><a title=\"Safety Compliance Rules\" href=\"http:\/\/online.wsj.com\/article\/SB125320871003320265.html?mod=googlenews_wsj\" target=\"_blank\">Wall Street Journal reports on FAA&#8217;s efforts to tighten safety compliance rules<\/a>.\u00a0 It is relevant given the too-friendly relations between inspectors and airlines&#8217; maintenance in recent years.\u00a0 <a title=\"Southwest Unapproved Parts\" href=\"http:\/\/asj.nolan-law.com\/2009\/09\/decision-disputed-allowing-airline-to-operate-with-unapproved-parts\/\" target=\"_blank\">David Evans, over at Aviation Safety Journal, has a critique of the handling of the latest Southwest violation<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>I certainly believe that all federal entities that have some oversight role have been reminded lately about what the consequences can be, when there is lack of attention.
